Casa Civica (civil house) or popularly called Casa Nave (house ship) was built in 1937 according to the project by the famous architect Nereo Bacci. The house, built on a triangular ground, on the crossing of two streets, as a seven-storey building with a ground floor and a basement, has a symbolic name given by the citizens because of its appearance.

Nereo Bacci was one of the Italian architects who worked in Rijeka. He was a member of the renowned Gruppo 7, and he was educated at the Milan Polytechnics. Some of his other achievements include the palace Albori (Jadranski Square, Rijeka), Dopo lavoro (Vodovodna Street), facilities of the Rijeka Refinery (Industrijska Street).

Besides its shae, the building owes its specific appearance to the shape of the façade on which the author, by using partitioning cornices, additionally emphasizes the horizontal line of the building, thus shaping the dynamics of the façade. Bacci decided to use stone from the coastal areas for the cornices, thus achieving an effective contrast between the smooth façade and the natural whiteness of the dressed stone. The ground floor is covered with characteristic stone rustic quality.

The characteristics of architects from Gruppo 7 is innovation in spatial deliberation and planning the interior. Casa Nave is characterized by three-room apartments, while a breakthrough can be recognized in the polygonal hall and a bathroom, as well as bedrooms with a balcony. These are functional apartments in which small changes resulted in an increased level of comfort.
